Email Attachments
In Email attachments, we should always be careful. If we see the file extensions look like these below, take a extra precaution.
.scr – Windows Screen Saver – USE CAUTION if you receive a screen saver via email. They can contain worms or viruses
.pif – DO NOT OPEN! This is most likely a virus. Clicking it will run a program or code that can mess up your computer.
.exe – executable file – a program that contains a virus, Trojan horse, or worm
.pps – MS PowerPoint (can contain macro virus)
.zip – Zip (compressed) file
.vbs – Visual Basic script
.bat – Executable MS-DOS batch file
.com – DOS executable command
.asp – active server page – internet script
.doc – Word document (can contain macro virus)
.xls – Excel file (can contain macro virus)
File extensions tell what the program is and how to treat a particular piece of data. For example, most people are somewhat familiar with .doc or a .txt file extensions these are both text documents. Hackers use some emails and activate the virus, which is always an attachment. Most Anti-virus nowadays stops, or at least warns you of high risk attachments. But don’t just rely on that. Don’t open a file or any link from a sender that you don’t recognize to be doubly sure.
Internet Chat rooms
Internet chat rooms are very popular nowadays. I was amazed the first I joined the chat room and that was aol. I talked online to exchange messages and at that time there was no cam yet. I was using nicknames. It was really fun. People call instant message (IM) or simply chat. Don’t you know that there is a difference between IM and chat? IM refers to a conversation between two people, while chat is talking with a group. So, if you are into chatting or joining chat rooms like yahoo messenger and other. Here are some valuable things that you should:
· Never give out your personal information in a chat room like full name, SSN, full address, parents’ names, etc.
· Don’t agree right away to meet a stranger in person whom you met in a chat room. Get to know the person well first.
· When you’re asked to enter or sign up for a chat nickname
· Be cautious of chatters who ask you to meet in private chat rooms.
· You should read the terms and conditions, code of conduct, and privacy statement at the chat site before joining.
Things I hate on the net
I love the Internet. I don’t know if I could be able to get in touch with my loved ones and friends from miles away without the Internet. I use the computer every day that means, I use Internet daily too. The Internet has a lot of things to offer to me – I can get information, read news and research the web. However, there are many things that I hate about the Internet. There are things on the web that annoy me.
The things on the net that annoy me are:
1. Virus, malware, Trojans – anybody hates virus. I hate it when I’d browse the net and encounter virus from certain sites.
2. Time-consuming loading in certain sites – I normally don’t like to wait when a site takes forever to load
3. Cookies – I have tracking cookies
4. Pop up ads
5. autoplay audio and video
But the things that I really hate the most are the Trojans, worms, virus or malware. I would really hate when these pesky things would infect my computer.
Cleaning up your hard drive
In cleaning up your hard drive. One must follow or do these simple things:
* Uninstall unused programs.
* Clean out temporary files.
* Empty your internet cache. This backup information can quickly add up and eat hard drive space.
* Empty your recycle bin
* Scandisk and Defrag
Remember that the cleaner your hard drive is, the better your computer will respond and work! Take care of your pc and your computer will respond to you properly.
What are Internet cookies?
What are Internet cookies? Don’t think of food – you know cookies. These cookies are different. Internet cookies are bits of information stored in your browser, known as text strings. When you are browsing your internet the web server placed some text files on your computer as cookies. The main purpose of cookies to save your preferences that you specify for future reference. You can enable or disable your computer web browser cookies. But it is important for you if you disable your browser cookies, may be some website will not work properly.
Open Internet Explorer, click on the Tools then Internet Options
Click on Privacy tab from the left top of dialog box and click on Advanced button
To enable the cookies, select the Accept option and for disable check the option Override automatic cookies handling then click on block
Now restart the browser to execute changes
