Making a difference in the community through outreach program
It feels so great to help people, most especially the less fortunate and underprivileged ones. There are many ways to make a difference in our community and reach out to the needy ones. One of the ways, which I think really helpful is through community outreach program.
Today, we can find many charitable and non-profit organizations that help less underprivileged people around the globe. I remember when I used to work in a non-profit organization about ten years ago. I remember enjoying that job a lot because I had the opportunity to help my fellowmen. It was such a fulfilling job. I wish I was still working in that organization. I had learned a lot of things in life. In fact, that job had helped me change a lot in me. I think I became more mature in so many ways.
Helping the less fortunate ones can be really fulfilling. I am glad to know there many non-profit organizations that are reaching out to the community to help better the quality of life of many needy people, just like the Sing for Hope organization that uses professional artists that benefit hospitals, schools, and communities. These artists work voluntarily and use their time and energy to reach out and work in the community without any payment.
The true essence of Christmas
Christmas is the season of giving and sharing. This Christmas, share your blessings with other people or your loved ones. A lot of people would cram and compel themselves to spend a lot for this event and then later, they became broke. You don’t have to spend a lot for Christmas. It is not about material things. A simple greeting is enough. You can give anytime you want to as long as you have something to give to your loved ones or most especially, those who are needy. For this holiday, we must remember Christ o. Christmas Day commemorates the birth of our savior Lord Jesus.
Christmas stockings legend
Have you been wondering how and when Christmas stockings and gifts started? A courage strains after the corpse. In 17 centuries ago in Turkey, a bishop of Myra named Nicholas was known for love of children and benevolence. On every Christmas Eve, he used to secretly and surprisingly give gifts to the children in the town. On Christmas Eve, while he passed by a house, a father and three daughters mourning about their poverty. They used to live abundantly but when their mother died of illness and after losing their money in useless and bad inventions. They moved into a peasant’s cottage, they were discussing on how they were not able to be married because they can’t afford nor provide a dowry which was the traditional thing to do at that time. Knowing the grief and despair, St. Nicholas felt pity on them. He looked in the window and observed that they were sleeping. He threw three small bags of gold in the chimney and landed in the stockings that had been hung over the fireplace to dry. St. Nicholas was caught in the act by their father which whom he begged to keep his secret. Guess what? Their father could not help to keep his mouth from telling the incident. The entire village learned from it days later. The three daughters were able to get married and lived happily. After that, hanging of stockings became a tradition on Christmas Eve.
Christmas time
It is 14 days until Christmas. Oh boy, time runs fast. I always get excited about this event as the song goes, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year, with the kids jingle belling and everyone’s telling you be of good cheer. It’s the most wonderful time of the year”. Isn’t it the most wonderful time of the year? It commemorates the birth of our savior Jesus Christ.
It’s time to have Christmas tree at home. It would seem right to some people to put a lot of fancy decorations on their tree. Why do we have a Christmas tree? When did it start? I was really curious how this Christmas tree started. Of course, it’s a tree (duh). But how did it start? Christmas trees are believed to have originated in Germany. Legend has it back in the 7th century a monk used a Fir tree to describe the holy trinity of God (God the father, God the son and God the Holy Spirit) to the German people. And it was in a triangular shape. From then on, people started to idolize and venerate the Fir tree as God tree. Eventually, the tree became symbol of Christianity. And on 1535 Martin Luther made a small Christmas tree lit with candles. He symbolized the candles as Jesus came down from the stars to bring us eternal life.
Nowadays, some people have Christmas trees in their homes for ornamental purposes while some people have their Christmas trees to simply commemorate the birth of our Lord Jesus. Well, whatever the purpose is, I always think Christmas trees are beautiful.
Turn your clock back to one hour today
Turn your clock back to one hour today. The time is back to Standard Time. Today is the end of Daylight Saving Time. Basically, we gained one hour today. There are some states and U.S. Territories that don’t observe or practice Daylight Saving Time. And these are Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Indiana, and Arizona.
How DST got started?
It was Benjamin Franklin first thought of shifting daylight but William Willet pushed the idea in Great Britain.
Why do clocks change at 2 a.m. in the U.S.?
Two o’clock in the morning was chosen because it minimized disruption where most people were at home at the fewest trains were funning at 2 a.m.
