Surfing the Internet for Seniors

July 7th, 2010

This post compliments of Caroline Hepler

There seem to be unlimited possibilities on the internet and many are fun, practical and appropriate for senior citizens. Here are some websites to surf that you may find more than interesting.

One of these websites is Facebook. You sign in with some particulars like your name, address and other particulars. This opens up a wide world to you. You choose your “friends” who are often relatives. You can share up to the minute thoughts and news with them. Often relatives will put videos and pictures on your personal page (“the wall”) and you can keep up with them up to the minute.

There is a plethora of shopping on the Internet. You can even go shopping for miracle ear hearing aids online. You can always find hearing aid reviews to help you make your purchase. Another fun way to get your shopping fix is the auction site eBay. You can virtually find anything on here and it is a good place to find gifts for loved ones. Playing games on different websites is a wonderful offering too. Try www.pogo.com for word games, solitaire and other challenges for free.

Look up AARP online too. This is a great website that has all sorts of information tailored to seniors. You may want to venture into the world of online dating. All ages use these websites and be careful because sometimes the result is marriage!

Living Alone Can Be Quite Intimidating, But A Home Security Alarm Really Helps

July 2nd, 2010

Written by guest blogger Amy Longhorn.

Living alone can be quite intimidating. There is nobody there to greet you when you open the door after a long day at work. Come to think of it, I’m not really sure that there is not going to be somebody waiting to surprise me when I do enter my home. I usually look around the apartment briefly just to be sure I am alone before I can relax for the evening.

One thing I have done to make myself feel a bit safer is to install a Michigan home security cameras. That way I can monitor my home while I am at work. With the alarm set after I enter my home I can be sure that whatever I do I will be all right, and when I go to bed at night I have that little extra feeling of safety and I can get a good night’s sleep.

I also feel more secure while I am away from home that nothing is going to happen to my possessions. I don’t know what I would do if I walked into my home and found that someone had violated my space. I don’t think I would ever get over that. I have to say that I do feel better having the Home Security Alarm on duty.

Stylish prescription eyeglasses at low prices

June 24th, 2010

When you see a pair of prescription eyeglasses, oftentimes you think of how costly each pair of eyeglasses is. You would spend taking care of your eyeglasses so it would not break. However, accidents happen anytime. You would not know the next day, you’d break your eyeglasses or for some reasons, you would lose it. When these things happen, you would be upset and disappointed of changing a new pair of eyeglasses, most especially if you don’t have enough money to get a new pair of eyeglasses.

Anyhow, you don’t have to worry because you can get affordable, new, trendy and high quality eyeglasses on the net. It is always a good choice to purchase and shop on the net because you can find things that are cheap and low priced. You don’t have to go to back to the optometrist place where you got your old eyeglasses. You can purchase new, elegant glasses at low prices. By knowing about your eye vision problem and condition and your prescription, you can easily buy suitable and appropriate glasses online. There are frequently thousands of different frames and designs to choose from.

Actually, I found some really nice, stylish and high quality eyeglasses at Zenni Optical. I found some rimless model frames that designed to accommodate different sizes and shapes of lens. And I really like their prices. You can buy a pair of new eyeglasses for as low as $8.

Oh The Choices!

June 15th, 2010

Guest post written by Sally Hampton.

The problem with shopping on the hughes internet for a Father’s Day gift is there are just too many choices! I’m kidding of course; this is precisely what makes shopping online such a pleasure. I especially love when June rolls around so I can start shopping for a gift for my 87 year old dad who loves chocolate. My dad has been the greatest to me so I like to put a lot of thought into his Father’s Day gift. He surprised us last Christmas with a hughes internet Oregonsatellite connection for our rural farm home, so we wanted to do thank him with his favorite treat this father’s day. He made it sound like no big day, saying that the hughes net internet offerswere just too good to pass up.

Last year I went to Chocolate.com and ordered their Heart Healthy Dark Chocolate Assortment because he has heart issues. Have you ever tried their chocolate? Can you say awesome? You can bet that I looked for that delivery whenever I went over to his place for a visit every month. He loved them so much he used to hide them from all the grand kids. He told me that he really looked forward to the surprise that he got every month so this year I’m shopping for another club purchase.

We have satellite internet now which is so fast that I can open a bunch of browser tabs at once and then go over each page leisurely. I’m sitting here looking at no less than 25 tabs open looking at the chocolate clubs available this year. Ah yes, choices aren’t they great!

Late To Join the Bandwagon

June 11th, 2010

Guest post from blogger Jeremy Andrews.

I  have to admit that I was pretty late getting on the DVR bandwagon. Thankfully, I got with the times and also got some good satellite tv package deals. I work pretty odd work weeks and cannot base my schedule off of when my favorite shows will be coming on. Even though I get to work from home, it is still hard to pull away from my work at times. That makes having a DVR great for me personally. I always watch the Office every week, but do not get a chance to break away form work until it ends. Since my wife also enjoys the same shows as myself, it works out perfectly that we get to come together later and watch what we couldn’t watch together during its first airing. i like how you can go through and find a particular show that you want to watch and record, and set it to do so for your automatically. I really have no clue what I would do without it these days, since I cannot ever find time to just kick back when my shows come on. Another cool thing is that you can record entire seasons of your favorite shows to save money on expensive DVDcosts that continue to skyrocket out of control in price. I guess I have fallen into this comfort ability and have no way to see myself out!
