Vitamin E is also known as alpha-tocopherol. Vitamin E is considered as an effective antioxidant. However, cases of vitamin E deficiency are very rare. But high intake of vitamin E in pregnancy might increase the danger of the baby being born with a heart defect. Studies have shown that high vitamin E intake plus the use of a supplement containing vitamin E increased the risk of congenital heart defects. Of course, too much of anything is too much. High intake of vitamin E may affect the oxidant/antioxidant process in embryonic tissues. If you are pregnant, watch out your Vitamin E intake. Anyhow, anything too much is bad.
