Happy Halloween

October 31st, 2008

Today is October 31st. It’s Halloween time! I didn’t see any people wearing costumes yet, maybe, tonight. Happy Halloween to everyone! I am not really a big fan of Halloween – I mean, I don’t practice it. I think it is because I didn’t grow up with it. My parents don’t observe it as well. Traditionally, my parents observe and celebrate the “All Saints Day” and “All Souls Day”. It is a big Catholic holiday just like Lent and Advent time. Catholics go to the cemetery and bring some flowers and candles for their departed loved ones. And most people would stay overnight at the cemetery.

Happy Halloween!

Captain of her Heart by Double

October 31st, 2008

I love this song, ” Captain of her Heart” by Double since I was in primary or elementary school. It was song popular in 1986 and became a radio classic hit since then. I never get tired of listening to this song. It is a great song! The band Double is originally known as Ping Pong, Double – it was a Swiss Duo – Kurt Maloo for vocals & guitar and Felix Haug for drums & keyboard. Their latest album is called “Blue and Double”. For Double fans, check them out at myspace.

This is a live song, it still sounds like a record. They are great!

How Halloween got started?

October 30th, 2008

Halloween is tomorrow! So, what’s your plan? Are you ready to wear your scary suit? Well, I am not sure for tomorrow yet. Have you ever wondered how Halloween got started?

Back in more than 2,000 years. The Europe’s Celtic people celebrated their New Year’s Day on November 1, called Samhain (SAH-win). The night before Samhain, people thought spirits, Fairies, demons, and other creatures were to walk the Earth as they traveled to the afterlife. They sacrificed animals to the gods by gathering around bonfires. And they wore animal skin costumes and wearing masks to confuse spirits, perhaps to avoid being possessed. Moreover, the Celts costumed as spirits are believed to have gone from house to house engaging in silly acts in exchange for food and drink, which is the “trick-or-treating” now.

Then, Samhain was later adopted by Catholic for pagan holidays. And In the seventh century Pope Boniface IV decreed November 1 All Saints’ Day, or All Hallows’ Day. The night before Samhain continued to be observed with bonfires, costumes, and parades, under a new name: All Hallows’ Eve—later “Halloween.”

That’s how Halloween got started. Actually, I also post about Halloween in my other blog.

Angel Falls

October 26th, 2008

I thought about falls today. The last time I’ve seen falls was two years ago in Oregon. Falls are beautiful and at the same time especially a person like me who doesn’t know how to dive and swim. The highest waterfalls in the world is Angel Falls. It is three times the size of the Eiffel Tower in France. The falls is named after the American Avaitor, who discovered this falls in 1935, James Crawford Angel. It is 3,212 feet high. The falls is located in Guayana Highlands region of Venezuela. I’d like to see this falls someday. It is very interesting to see nature! See the photo I grabbed from the net.

yatch port

October 24th, 2008

This is a yatch port. I took this picture on our vacation in Oregon when we went for boating. My father in-law has a boat so it was so great. This is the Columbia River that extends to Canada. Columbia river is the largest and longest river in Pacific northwest region of North America. It is named after the Columbia Rediviva the first ship from western world known to have traveled up the river.
